Question: Hello doctor

My wife delivered a baby 10 months back through a c section and now she is pregnant again and does not wish to continue the pregnancy what would be the safest method of terminating the pregnancy her last cycle was around 5 weeks ago and will it affect her since she had a c section surgery

Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (23 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
medical abortion under close supervision

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, thanks for trusting health care magic.
As she has early pregnancy the best method for termination will be by medicines. The medicines routinely used are Misoprostol and mifepristone. Discuss with her treating doctor about the same.

But as she has had a cesarean section she should first get herself examined from a gynecologist for size of uterus and termination has to be under the supervision of a doctor because cesarean scar can rarely rupture during the process of expulsion.

Don't panic listening to this but one should be aware of possible side effects of everything.

And after termination of pregnancy adopt a regular contraception because repeated abortions in a patient of previous cesarean is a risky procedure.
Wish her the best of health.
Take care.

Thank you doctor for your early response since the doctor under whom she was is on leave and is to resume on 12.05.2014 and though we have consulted another gynac for the same is it advisable to wait for her regular doctor for consultation or can we continue with the second doctors advise as to the same. Also the new doctor has advised pills for the same. Further my wife has been doing rigourous workout for losing weight will it in any affect her since she is pregnant now

Brief Answer:
continue with new doctor, avoid heavy exercise

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome back.
In my opinion there is no harm in continuing with the second doctor because all gynecologists are well oriented with the process of abortion and its associated complications.
Delay in abortion process will only make it affect your wife more so sooner the better.

She should refrain from heavy workouts for the time being i. e. two weeks and then she can resume her exercise schedule gradually.
I hope I have answered your question but in case you have other queries, I will be happy to help.

Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (14 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
abortion process can be little painful

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, the abortion medicines cause the dislodgement of implanted baby by increasing uterine contractions and then expelling the same.
It hurts a little but ever since her pregnancy is an early one it is not going to be an unbearable pain.

In case it still hurts then you can take the medicines prescribed by your doctor and she will feel better in minutes.
Take care and wish her the best of health.

one last question sorry to bother you how long will the bleeding take and the entire process take I mean how long would it be uncomfortable and does she need bed rest
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
fit in fifteen days

Detailed Answer:
No problem sir you can contact me anytime.
She will need bed rest for about 3-4 days and then she can resume simple household activities or a sitting job in office.
But slight weakness can persist for about a couple of weeks.
Bleeding will stop by 7-10 days and she will hail and hearty by then.
God bless you both.

her contractions have started how long will they last I mean how long does the most painstaking moments last n will it effect her in any way
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (12 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
2-8 hours usually, mild weakness can persist.

Detailed Answer:
It will take around 2-4 hours in a normal case and once she expells the tissue it will be done and then just simple menstrual type bleeding will set in.
As she has had a cesarean before she can take a little longer time to expel.
She can feel a little weak for a few days and nothing much thereafter.
Hope to see her in best of health. Take care.
