Question : how long should i continue taking once i get unplugged ?

I read your question and i understand your concern. Lubiprostone is a laxative / IBS agent and should be used for relief of constipation. Duration of is purely relative and depends on the symptoms relief.
I prescribe them for at least 7 days and then after that on need basis / SOS basis as per constipation status. If the patient is constipated amitiza is taken. Other wise with normal bowel movements amitiza can be skipped.
Nutshell, need basis use to be continued and compliant twice or thrice a day use for at least 7 days.
