Question: What is the proper dosage for Melatonin as a sleep inducer? I've been taking 5 mg. but it's not working.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Melatonin can be used in dosages of 2 -5 mg. It shouldn't be increased further because at very high dosages may disrupt sleep. So the 5 mg dosage you are on is at high as it gets. If not effective at that dosage should search other options.

Temazepam may be taken for one or two weeks but not for long term as it creates tolerance (same dosage is not effective anymore and dosage should be increased.

Other options may include Zolpidem, Dimenhydrinate (an antihistminic), or a sedative antidepressant like Mirtazapine.
