Suggest Ideal Diet To Remove Lead Toxicity In Adults

Question: Have you ever heard of a "diet" to reduce /remove "lead toxicity " in adults? My sister was referred to a non board certified holistic neurosurgeon. I am trying very hard to convince her spouse that this is delaying vital treatment. Her primary doctor is suspecting MS and this scam artist has him believing the diet will cure her. In addition the lab results and office visit reports have not been shared with he primary.

Brief Answer:
Professionals work with evidence-based medicine

Detailed Answer:
Hello, thank you for visiting HCM! I use the professional Nutritional Care Manual put out by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics here in the US. I do not see any approach listed to remove lead from the body.

You are correct about this approach being questionable. The primary doctor should always be involved with other treatment modalities as some are quite dangerous and, as you say, may waste precious time in identifying the true cause of an illness so that proper treatment can be planned by the primary. Many primary doctors will cooperate with "reasonable" alternative therapies.

Please, let him know that he should go to his primary and compare the opinions of the primary wih the "holistic" neurosurgeon sharing the results of the holistic practitioner and ask for his doctor's opinion so all is coordinated.

There are no evidence based diets to remove lead. There is chelation therapy that is used in conjunction with with polyethylene Glycol followed by another prescription drug and is done in the hospital. It is not a "diet".

I hope I have answered your question. Please feel free to write back if you need clarifications or would like to ask another question regarding this issue.

Thank you for coming to HCM. If you have no further issues, please close out the question. XXXXXXX Shattler, MS,RDN
