Brief Answer:
There are many medications to choose from

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

There are lot of medications for the treatment of diabetes. Whatever medicines you choose, the aim is to control diabetes.

Our target should be
1. Fasting sugar less than 130 mg/dl
2. 2hours after food less than 180 mg/dl
3. HbA1c (3 months' average blood sugar) less than 7%

The medications include
1. Metformin
2. Glimepiride group
3. Acarbose group
4. Piogliyazone
5. Insulin
6. Non insulin injectable drugs
7. Gliptins

At present you are taking the first 3 medications, which are fairly good medicines. After 2 months do a blood sugars and HbA1c. If these values are ok, you can continue same medications. If not you have to increase the dose or add new medications.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back.

1. Check your fasting blood sugar, after food blood sugar and HbA1c. If FBS >126, or PPBS > 200 or HbA1c > 6.5% , you are having diabetes.
2. Diet depends on your blood sugars, weight etc. In general avoid simple carbohydrates, eat more fibre rich food low in calories
3. If not controlled diabetes will affect pregnancy and baby
4.Please avoid alcohol if planning pregnancy
5. Please monitor his sugars and HbA1c. If it is in target you can continue same medications
