Suggest Remedies For Persistent Fever And Leg Cramps In A Child

Question: Hello, my son has had fever for 3 days this week. He's been fine other than the fever. Normal behavior and no other symptoms. Today however, he woke up with no fever at all. His temp was 96.6 and leg cramps in his calves. He's been having me carry him because he's struggling to walk. He's very wabbly and says it hurts. What should I do? Does this sound normal? I have 2 others kids but have never seen this. I appreciate your help!
Brief Answer:
Should subside soon. Please wait and watch.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Most often children have similar fevers due to viral infections and probably your son had one such episode of viral fever. Sometimes, viral fevers may precipitate a condition called myositis characterized by muscle weakness. Frequently, such weaknessess subside in a few days and is not a cause for concern. In relatively less frequent cases, it may persist as a chronic condition.
However, I would not insist you to panic. Please wait and watch. Chances are that things would become fine soon again. If that does not happen soon, you would need to see a doctor.
Let me know if I could help further.
