Suggest Remedies For Petechiae On Breast After Starting Acyclovir Treatment

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I began acyclovir treatment for HSV-1 a couple days ago, and woke up the next morning with petechiae on my right breast. I stopped taking the acyclovir and the rash lessened, but is still present. It doesn't itch and I do not feel pain directly where the rash is however, upon lifting my arm I feel pain under my breast. The pain feels like a bruise. I do not feel the pain other than when lifting my arm, or touching the area. It feels like there is a mass or inflammation where I feel the pain. My next menstrual cycle is in 12 days. Is this a coincidence, or could the rash and pain be related? Is this something that I should be concerned about?

-My last check up was about 6 months ago.
-I also have rynaud's disease
-I do not take any other medications besides motrin as needed for headaches or pain

Brief Answer:
Petechia

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having an adverse reaction form your acyclovir. What your are experiencing is a low platelet count. This will actually cause XXXXXXX bruising under the skin. This type of rash will last about 1 week. The low platelet count will also affect your menstrual cycles. The platelet counts will improve within 1 week after stopping your acyclovir. I would recommend seeing your medical provider to check your complete blood count as acyclovir can also affect the white blood cells.

In summary
1. Petechia are small XXXXXXX bruises and will last about 1 week
2. Due to low platelet counts
3. Will affect menstrual cycles
4. See your medical provider for additional labs
