Suggest Remedies For Rashes On An Infant's Buttocks

Question : My 2yr 9mo old son developed a rash on his back yesterday (noticed it last night during bath). We've tried putting some diaper cream on it and it didn't get any worse overnight. Not sure if it's serious enough to take to a doctor or to wait and see if it clears up on its own.

It's about 3'' wide by 1.5'' tall, completely smooth (no bumps). Last night he said that it was tender, but not so much today.

He's had a low-grade fever of 99ish for past couple of days but it's gone now and all-throughout he was pretty much himself.

I am Dr.Kakkar(Dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have also reviewed the image.

The image seems to suggest that it is a mild dermatitis.

You may use an OTC mild topical steroid cream e.g Cortisone cream (1%Hydrocortisone), twice daily for a few days. I think that should be enough.
