Suggest Remedy For Frequent Urination Post Hysteroscopy Surgery

Posted on Mon, 21 Dec 2015
Question: I had a Hysteroscopy in August 2015. My GYN removed a benign endometrial polyp after several unsuccessful attempts by him and three other GYN doctors. However since then my urination have increased much more. I've told my GYN MD and he keeps giving me a urine test and finally gave me Cipro (which I have not taken) because I do not believe that is what I need for the urination.

Can you offer any advice? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
a urinary tract infection is likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

if your doctor has done urine tests and given you ciprofloxacin then - obviously - there have to be signs of urinary tract infection in your urine. I'll mention the most common symptoms of lower urinary tract infections, so you could identify them (if they're present in your case). Some patients may not have every single symptom but only some of them.
- pain during urination (usually of burning or stinging quality)
- urinating a lot of times but usually with low urine volume
- feeling the need to go to the toilet again even right after you've finished urination
- lower abdominal pain
- blood in the urine

The urinalysis may detect white and red blood cells and perhaps also nitrates in the urine specimen. A urine culture would be positive.

If you'd like you can confirm whether your symptoms resemble the aforementioned ones and also upload the test reports.

I can't find any connection between the hysteroscopy and your symptoms particularly after so much time has passed since the procedure.

Kind Regards!

I said the frequent urination started right after the hysteroscopy procedure. I don't have any of the aforementioned symptoms other than a little burning and soreness.I did not take the cipro. You have not offerredd anything different than what he's done.

Brief Answer:
you've got to do one step at a time

Detailed Answer:
When a patient has symptoms which resemble a urinary tract infection, the doctor should first exclude the infection before going on to more tests. I've asked for the reports, so I could judge whether ciprofloxacin was justified or not. Your can upload them either through this website or to another site (and provide the link for me).

If there's no infection but you still have burning and soreness and frequency then more potential causes will have to be investigated like renal stones, bladder tumors, etc. The rest of the investigation requires ultrasound scans of the urinary tract (as a first test) and depending on the results perhaps more radiological tests (a CT might be needed). Finally if bladder pathology is suspected, direct visualization of the bladder walls will have to be ordered (cystoscopy).

I can't offer any treatment options without a diagnosis obviously. I hope you understand that. I'll be glad to comment on your test reports though.

Kind Regards!
