Suggest Treatment For Kidney Stones Causing Pain In Lower Back

I have had 3 kidney stones in 5 years. My Dad had 14 during his life. For the past year and a half i have had pain in my groin and both sides of my lower back. The pain is weird, sometimes in the front, sometimes the side, sometimes the back or the other side. Sometimes when i urinate it feels like my kidneys are inflammed and its very painful. I ve been to a urologist several times, with a cat scan, 24 hour urine test, and a sonogram. All came back negative, and i get the feeling they think i m making it up. All i know is my pain continues, on both sides intermittently but every day. What do u think?

Hello,

You are experiencing pain in the lower back and groin since one and a half years. Urination is very painful, you had CT, sonogram and urine examination done and the reports are negative. Burning and painful urination are indicative of UTI, prostrate infection or cancer, kidney stones, STI, bladder problem/cancer, hernia, etc.

Lower back pain associated with groin pain are commonly caused by spine problems that pinch or compress the nerves that travel through the groin area and cause groin pain. You are suggested to get urinalysis (R / E and C / S) done to detect UTI. You may need a course of antibiotics if test shows positive report. Get repeat USG and high-speed or dual energy computerized tomography (CT) done to reveal tiny stones. X-ray and CT to detect any prostrate problem.

You will be accordingly given conservative treatment or recommended surgery if required. In the meantime, take plenty of water to detox infection. Take Combiflam, one stat to get rid of pain. Get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
