Suggest Remedy For Light-headedness And Leg Cramps

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, I have become very lightheaded after eating and standing. My left leg cramps bad I have elevated stretched walked around. I had a procedure in my stomach with Botox for Gastropresis on 14th, starting new meds with Bi Polar, on the 16th on 2LPM O2 with exertion. I have had bad cramping and diarrhea for 2 days. I just don't know if this related to my new medication Lithium and Metformin (Bi-Polar) or from the GP procedure. I know it is not my lungs. Just finally had any heart issues cleared. I have vertigo but I know that feeling.

Brief Answer:
Sever possible causes should be excluded step by step.

Detailed Answer:

Hello XXXX!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that the first cause of your cramping and diarrhea to exclude is your Botox procedure. You need to discuss with your attending physician about that.

It is true that Metformin may be associated with diarrhea (a possible adverse effect). Also Lithium may be associated with diarrhea when being overdosed.

So, there is a need for a comprehensive differential diagnosis. Those two drugs may be withdrawn for a while a see the effect (is diarrhea disappeared or no?)

After excluding any possible drugs side effects, it is important to consider adverse Botox procedure effects and manage its unpleasant associated symptoms.

You need to discuss with your operating doctor about the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Feel free to ask me whenever you need! Greetings! Dr. Iliri

I got off phone with Pysch he has asked me at this time to pause the Metformin though he would like to place me on again soon. He would like me to try and stick with the Lithium I went up from 150 to 300 last night per instructions. Blood work for that next week. It got so bad last night all I could do was lie in the dar with quiet and a/c I am still feeling pretty light headed. No more diarrhea since yesterday. I been drinking a lot of water and such. I know gastro said there will be bad cramping and bloating for awhile as long as 3 weeks. Also will take that to know if this procedure was a success at this time they gave me 50/50 with the severity of the Gastroparisis. I will call my gastro today.

Brief Answer:
I strongly recommend following all the above mentioned diagnostic steps.

Detailed Answer:

Hello XXXX!

You need to exclude also any possible additive implications of Lithium (discuss again with your prescribing doctor). And of course, a thorough investigation of that Botox procedure is necessary.

I thing you are on the right way to successfully clarify your health conditions.

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri

Than you. I spoke with GI they do not feel this is based off the procedure. So I will wait it out until next week for blood levels the diarrhea has started back up. GI said she will see me Wednesday but again not likely the procedure. Still quite dizzy so just will proceed with keeping quiet and fluids.

A comprehensive differential diagnosis is necessary.

A comprehensive differential diagnosis is necessary.

Hi again XXXX!

At this point I would recommend avoiding Metformin and Lithium from your therapy, keeping a good hydration regimen.

If diarrhea is abundant and disturbing, you could try Loperamide 2 mg tablet; and if persistent to seek ED medical help until you meet your GI doctor.

A comprehensive differential diagnosis including GI tests (pancreas, stool tests, etc), will be necessary to address the right responsible cause.

Regards,

Dr. Iliri
