Brief Answer:
yes, the two incidences seems related..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems like the infection has spread to the surrounding region. Sore throat is also due to infection..
I would like to know a bit more about the symptoms so that I can guide you better..
1. Have you recorded temperature? If yes, please specify the temperature reading?
2.Is the fever continuous or intermittent?
3.As you are referred to the specialist what cause did your dentist explain for the referral?
4.Is the tooth firm or mobile?

Kindly answer the following questions as well as if possible send a scan of latest x ray of tooth so that I can guide you better towards treatment for both fever and tooth problem..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

I haven't recorded temperature and that seems to be in control at the moment.

fever is intermittent

the dentist could not complete the root canal. he said only an endodotist could as the roots are all messed. by opening the filling that already was there it could have let something out. he had filled it with a temporary filling but it wasn't done very well. I am going to the endodotist tomorrow.

can acid reflux cause inflammation of the throat as well doctor?

Brief Answer:
Yes, acid reflux can cause sore throat, but your case look like infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Again..

Thanks for the reply..

As per your question acid reflux can cause throat Inflammation leading to sore throat; but since you have dental condition, this seems more like bacterial infection causing fever and sore throat to me.
I would suggest you to continue taking Amoxicillin and along with it take Tylenol for reducing fever if it occurs and Ibuprofen for relieving throat pain.

That being said if you also have history of acid reflux, it is advisable to start a course of antacid and proton pump inhibitors. These are available over the counter too.

Besides those, do warm saline gargles. Avoid spicy and chilled foods and drink plenty of water..

If you have any further questions you are most welcome..

Thanks again..
