Suggest Remedy For Soreness In Navel After Exercising

Question: Last week I was doing leg lifts, next day my abs were sore as I expected they would be. However a week later my ab muscles to right of naval are extremely sore when I try to sit up from lying flat. To lay down I have to lay on my side & roll to my back. I am not able to palpate a buldge like a hernia with or without movement. Could it just be a badly strained muscle?

Brief Answer:
yes it could

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

if you feel it on the abdominal wall only then it's probably a strained abdominal muscle. If you feel it on the upper part of the leg too (where it joins to the pelvis) then a leg muscle may be involved as well. Both types of muscles act when you try to sit up. Perhaps you've done more than your muscles could cope with.

If it's the leg then 4-6 weeks will be required for recovery. If it's the abdominal muscle it may take more time (sometimes much more time!). Be sure to avoid any moves that cause pain or discomfort and visit an orthopedics specialist for clinical examination and confirmation.

Keep in mind that such injuries do not heal easily because these muscles are involved in many everyday activities. The age plays a big role in healing. Young athletes recover sooner than older individuals. The injured site may be more 'sensitive' in the future (that is prone to new injuries).
