Question : I had a molar removed by oral surgeon. I have tenderness, no facial pain, and swelling on jaw which I expected. But the swollen area is warmer than other skin nearby by 1.7 degrees F. I had bone graft and implant placed--have dental pain-- and am taking antibiotics and being followed. The warm area surprised me

As far as the swelling over the face following removal of a tooth, graft and implant placement is concerned, the most likely cause could be because of the damage to lymphatics when they remove the tooth or rise the flap. The function of lymphatics is to remove the excess fluid from body. Since the lymphatics are damaged it results in swelling and warmth over the operated region.

In all probabilities this should subside in 3-4days time. Continue the antibiotics and analgesic. If the swelling does not subside in 5 days then consult your oral surgeon and get it evaluated.
