Question: I've been experiencing green stool for the past few days. I have IBD and am on lithium and the birth control, Nexplanon. My diet hasn't changed and I'm still am exercising the same. I don't drink or smoke...should I be concerned? I also have hemorrhoids. I have been more constipated than diarrhea.

Brief Answer:
There is no cause for concern

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

Presence of green stools just implies quick transit time of intestinal contents and food through the intestine. Yellow color of stools is usually due to conversion of green bile pigments into Stercobilin (yyellow in color ) due to bacterial action. For this to occur the food and bile has to be in Intestine for certain duration of time, when the intestinal motility increases the bile is excreted unaltered leading to green color stools. In the absence of any other accompanying symptoms, there seems to be no cause for concern.

I would suggest you the following

1. Ensure good intake of water : 2 to 3 liter a day.

2. High fiber diet : 2 servings of vegetable salad and 2 servings of fruits especially citrus fruit will ensure adequate intake of water

3. Daily exercise

High fibre diet and adequate intake of water are very important.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
