Question : "Hello, I had a fasting blood sugar of 144 yesterday morning, After I drank the sugar drink my one hour test was 111, third was 104 and the 4th was 97, so the nurse said I was normal! Why in the world would the fasting sugar be so high and then normal after drinking the sugar drink??? I am not pregnant nor on any medications that should do anything to my sugar.

Brief Answer:
Test fasting glucose again

Detailed Answer:
Your fasting glucose is compatible with a diagnosis of diabetes. Current guidelines recommend rechecking on another day to confirm this. It can so happen that glucose values are normal despite the sugary drink. There is a strong insulin response after the sugary load that can keep glucose levels under control. This typically happens in some people with pre diabetes or early type 2 diabetes
