Suggest Treatment For Allergic Skin Rash

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Jul 2014
Question: I have a rash that started appearing 4 years ago in August. I went to the Dr I regularly went to, he said it thought it was an under the skin infection possibly cellulitis. He gave me an antiboitic and it cleared up by the next day quite a bit, I took all the Meds and it went away. About a year later it returned and since I had move during that year I went to another Dr that I go to regularly since and they said it was allergies, went away, on it own. I have gotten it about every 3 months since and it goes slightly further up my leg every time I get it. I have taken pics of it so that when it goes away I can still show what it looks like. My now regular Dr sorta' shrugged his shoulders and gave me a rx of a crime. Did not work. I am still getting it and have the rash right now. What directions should I go? The Drs I go to now is at a free clinic, that is all I can go to. No monies.

Brief Answer:
Allergic contact dermatitis is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to HCM.
I have read your query and understood your concern.
I have seen the attached pic also. Thanks for the same.

It seems that you are suffering from a condition known as allergic contact dermatitis.
I will like to know the following details:
1) Is the rash present only on legs or elsewhere on body?
2) Any history of change of garments or socks when you get this rash?
3) Does it itch or painful?
4) How about your diabetic status?

Presently its not looking like infection.
Allergic rash if severe may lead to oozing of fluids. Oozing may not necessarily indicate an infection.
Kindly give the details of medications you have been taking.

Kindly get back to me with details of above questions so that i can help you to my best.
Stay healthy.

Only on the legs, no type of change of any type of clothing, it itches and it swells, not painful but it does burn, not a diabetic.

I would like to put differentials for your rash which are :
1) Allergic contact dermatitis

In such cases, skin biosy is confirmatory test to make final diagnosis.

I will advise you to get back to me with report of the biopsy so that I can help you further.

It will be a few weeks before I can do so, if I can get my Dr to refer me to a Dermatogist. I go to a free clinic so I will do my best to get the test done and will keep you abreast of what is going on.
