Question: My 22 month old son is suffering from blocked nose which esp aggrevates during the night (past couple of days) Due to this his sleeping pattern is disturbed and remains cranky throughout.
Currently i do administer some drops of saline water directly and nebulized. Lately he has shown some signs of chest cogestion as well.
Please advise me how can i help him out.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Chest examination required

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for posting on healthcaremagic. Most of such cases occur due to viral infection which does not respond to antibiotics. But sometimes there is associated superadded bacterial infection as exhibited by chest congestion where antibiotics might be required. I would insist you to visit a pediatrician and to get the child examined so that steps can be taken accordingly. Steam inhalation or nebulization will help in diluting the cough or chest congestion and should provide relief. Also give some antiallergic syrup like ascoril LS 2.5 ml twice daily for a few days. Continue the saline nasal drops. You may also try nasivion nasal drops to release nasal congestion. Generally viral infections show spontaneous recovery in 5-7 days.
