Posted on Thu, 14 Jul 2016
Question: Hi, I am having blood in my urine. Also, swelling of both ankles and backache. My doctor can't see me
for 3 weeks. Also, there is no pain. The blood is brown spotting, small amount but occasionally there is
red blood and more blood. Should I wait for my appointment or go to a walk-in clinic ?

Brief Answer:
Please see a doctor right away

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Blood in the urine, especially one that is increasing in intensity should be checked out immediately.
This could be due to a stone in the urinary tract or an infection.

Associated with swelling in your ankles and back pain kidney disease needs to be ruled out as well.
Scarring /adhesions from the C-section & bladder complications can add to the pain.

-do you have any other medical conditions or take any medications?
-Have you had any other surgeries or abdominal injuries?
- when did you attain menopause? Any problems during the perimenopausal period?
-any previous urinary or pelvic infections?

I recommend :
- a physician consult right away
- an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis to check for stones or uterine/ovary pathology
- blood tests (complete blood count, kidney function tests, liver function tests)
-urine analysis (to check for infection)
-a cystoscopy to check for lesions within the bladder.

The above tests will be individualized to you based on the clinical findings.

I urge you to seek medical attention right away. The earlier it is diagnosed & treated, the better chances of complete recovery & less chance of complications
I hope I've answered your queries.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you.

Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
