Question : I have a medium-sized boil (nickel sized) on my lower abdomen that has gotten worse over the last 5-6 days. It started out as a normal looking boil (red, pus-filled) and now it is purple and looks blood-filled. It hurts and I am running a low grade fever (99.7*F). Do I need to go see a doctor and is there any chance this could be MRSA?

Brief Answer:
See a doctor. Probably not MRSA.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic. From the information you have provided, this infection is getting worse and is likely to need treating. It is probably caused by a staph skin bacteria but is probably not MRSA. This is because you are young and I am assuming you are generlly well. Providing you completed the course of Ciproflaxacin, this would not put you at risk.
I suggest you see your doctor for a course of antibiotics. This may be flucloxacillin. Continue with the warm compresses for the meantime.
I hope this is of help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
