Suggest Treatment For Chronic Lower Back Pain

Posted on Fri, 4 Apr 2014
Question: I have chronic lower back pain (caused by fall from horse). Last week I slipped on ice and twisted back trying not to fall down. Lower back pain has been worse since then. When I wake up from sleeping an hour or more, it hurts and is very stiff. Usually, rest helps but now it only helps if I sit, not lay down. Starting yesterday, I had constipation and mild pain in the abdomen. Abdominal pain persists today.

Brief Answer: In the meanwhile, for symptomatic relief: Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. From the description, I feel that you might have sustained a SOFT TISSUE STRAIN involving your ligaments or tendons.Since the pain is persistent and you have chronic back pain history it needs to be investigated. MRI scan is the investigation of choice to detect any such soft tissue abnormalities. In the meanwhile, for symptomatic relief: • Lie on a hard bed. • Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required • Avoid forward bending. • Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights. • Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help. Your mild abdominal pain seems to be due to constipation. Take a good laxative and high fibre diet. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care

I want to feel that it is mainly the back, and that the stomach ache is indeed just from constipation. I only began to worry when I did some online research about the two types of pain being related to abdominal aneurism (sp?), which my sister had last year. I assume that the pain would be a lot worse if it was something more serious?

Brief Answer: This is not related to abdominal aneurysm. Detailed Answer: Do not worry . This is not related to abdominal aneurysm. The pain you have is most probably due to muscle or ligament strain. Wishing you speedy recovery.. Warm regards.
