Suggest Treatment For Cold, Sneezing And Throat Infection

Posted on Tue, 15 Sep 2015
Question: My daughter, 19 yrs, gets cold, sneezing, running nose with greening sputum followed by throat infection and lungs infection in a sequence. This has to be treated with antibiotic many a time. Seems to have poor immunity. How to prevent and improve her immunity.

What do I do keep her healthy and agile since she is now pursuing Engineering Degree course which she has just joined. Basically she is allergic to cold and humid weather. But since she has shifted to the engineering college with warm weather the problem due to weather has been minimised. Her immunity need to be improved with medication if possible.

Brief Answer:
seems to be allergic rhinitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that your daughter is having frequent episodes of cold.

Based on clinical details, it appears to be allergic rhinitis (frequent bouts of sneezes followed by running nose). Recurrent throat pain (pharyngitis) or lung infections (bronchitis) are more common in allergic rhinitis.

I would suggest the following measures, to overcome your issues.

1. Stop consuming frozen foods (curd/ice cream/ chilled fruit juices).

2. Avoid exposure to pungent smells (kitchen odors, deodorants and perfumes).

3. To improve immunity- take plenty of vegetables, and whole grains, and low in saturated fat, get adequate sleep, maintain balanced diet, regular walking and stress free life style. Oral medications like Multivitamin with antioxidents combinations will also boost up the immunity.

4. She needs to start prophylactic anti allergic medications like MOTELUKAST (dosage and strength decided by your treating surgeon) to prevent the complications like polyp or sinusitis.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
