Question: : "My grandson Is 14 months. Went to emergency room Wednesday morning w cough and fever. Fever as high as 104. They diagnosed croup. Gave him medicine. They gave him medicine. Not it is Friday and 8 pm and he has fever 103 105. Not too bad during day. Cough better. advice?

I share your concerns about your grandson' s health. Croup is severe infection of respiratory tract. It generally takes 3 to 5 days for complete relief. One need to complete 5 days medicines.

. Fever is certainly a cause of concern. High fever may cause seizures in child, so you have to take extra care of fever. . You can increase the frequency of fever medicine (paracetamol) after consulting his doctor.

Cough is subsiding, that proves that your grandson is recovering from croup. Take care of his nutrition. Give him protein rich diet. Give plenty of fluids.

They gave him a steroid. Starts w a D. Only one dose. Is that ok.

Croup is a severe infection in children. Child may have difficulty in breathing. So , early relief is required. Steroids are very important component of treatment in such infections. So it is perfectly fine to prescribe steroids. However give steroids, absolutely as per doctor's prescription.
