Question: can hsv1 cause issues with one's stomach? ever since I first contracted the disease my bowel movements have been completely erratic. either constant diarrhea or backed up for days. I'm flactulant ALL THE TIME and has a very foul odor. I have also gained weight but could very well just be because of stress eating. yes, my symptoms came before the stress eating. eating healthy helps regulate my boul movements. abdominal pains and hesitation urinating have seldom occurred also. thank you

Brief Answer:
Bacterial infections are ,are more likely responsible than HSV

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

I understand your concern.

HSV does not have typical and a regular propensity to cause stomach issues.

But none the less it can cause such symptoms in association with a gut bacteria.

This is true if anaerobic infections predominate.

All I advise you is to get a stool culture and sensitivity.

An ultrasound abdomen wiLl also help to rule out intraabdominal abscess if any.

Further management is based on the test results.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
