Brief Answer:
Oflox is an antibiotic and Ondem is for vomiting

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Oflox conatins ofloxacin an antibiotic, very commonly used in infective diarrhea.
Ondem contains ondensetron which is an antiemetic(to decrease vomiting).

You want to know out of these two which one is for loose stool.

I want to give you some information regarding diarrhea. Loose stool may be infective or noninfective in origin. Infective diarrhea can be viral or bacterial, out of which viral is much more common than bacterial. An antibiotic should be used when there is infective diarrhea. Infective diarrhea usually presents with fever, loose stool and stool mixed with blood or mucus.

In your case you did not mention any of the signs suggestive of infective diarrhea.

He is currently on calcium, vitamin D and iron supplementation.
Iron syrup sometimes can cause loose stool.

So I would suggest you not to give oflox right now. Hold the Raricap syrup which contains iron till the stools get normal. Maintain good hydration by giving ORS and plenty of fluids. Continue the feeds as usual.

Observe for the frequency of stool, urine output, any irritability or lethargy and fever. If you notice any of these consult your physician and then only antibiotic can be given under his/her supervision if needed.

I will be glad to answer if you have any further query.

Hello Dr.
Thanks for the advise. I will hold RARICAP syrup and will start ORS today with plenty of water.

One more doubt I have is: Sometimes in the period when baby's teeth starts coming out then also loose motion starts.
please confirm if such possiblity could be the reason for loose motions.

If yes then please advise the medications if we have any spcific for this.

Thanks,
XXXX.

Brief Answer:
Loose motion is not related to teeth eruption

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Sorry for delayed reply. It is a common misconception that teeth eruption causes loose motion. It is not true.

Teeth eruption starts at around 6 months of age. At the same time we introduce feed to the baby. Bowel pattern changes after introduction of feed and in some babies that may present as loose stools. As I have already mentioned the causes of loose stool but that does not include teethening as a cause.

So don't worry. Maintain the hydration and the bowel pattern will get back to normal within 4-5 days.
