Brief Answer:
The report shows some enlarged kidney with preserved renal function

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Renal Technetium scan is done to test renal function. There can be two types of renal scan one to assess renal function and other to find out structural abnormality. The one which has been done for your baby is diuretic renal scan. This is advised to

1)Evaluate functional significance of hydronephrosis
2)Determine need for surgery
obstructive hydronephrosis - surgical Rx
non-obstructive hydronephrosis - medical Rx
3)Monitor effect of therapy

Your report shows there is hydronephrosis due to some obstruction. But it is good that renal function is preserved. Repeat ultrasound at 1 year of age is needed to know the progression or regression of the condition. Mostly the condition gets better.
An intravenous pyelogram may be needed to exactly lacate the obstruction and then management accordingly.
The common causes are PUJ obstruction and it can be treated well with surgery.

Brief Answer:
No surgery is not needed at this stage

Detailed Answer:
Hello

The report shows relative function of left kidney is 49% and of right kidney is 51%.Values between 45-55% is considered normal. The function below 35-40% in presence of obstructed drainage is abnormal.

In infants with an obstructive pattern on diuretic renal scan and function exceeding 40%, conservative management is appropriate.

As renal function of both the kidneys are normal, follow up with serial USG is needed. If there is USG finding deteriorates, repeat scan may be needed. If the renal function declines surgery may be needed after proper evaluation by a nephrologist.
