Suggest Treatment For Excessive Drainage From An Abscess

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Apr 2017
Question: hi. I had an abscess drained on Friday. I am scheduled to see a surgeon on Tuesday. I am still having a lot of drainage. I thought I remembered the doctor saying he was going to put something in the incision but I'm not sure. The abscess was approximately the size of a dime. The incision was about 1/8 of an inch. Is it possible that he put something in to keep it from healing closed?
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
To allow healing from within

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
Noted your history and understood your concerns.
You are correct to an extent.
The abscess is always large inside and when the incision is smaller than the diameter of an abscess we keep in a drainage tube not to allow the skin incision close before the abscess heals from within; also helps drain out the pus better, helps in reducing the inflammation and healing.

I hope, this answers your specific query.
