Question : I have extreme diarrhea unpredictable always preceded by a distended stomach, goes up sometimes two belt sizes. The diarrhea lasts between 1 and 4 hours and may come back tomorrow or it may be two months. I've tracked my food intake and find no common denominator. After I go I get the chills. Been going on for 5 years but episodes are increasing in frequency. Its so bad at times, two weeks ago for instance, crapped the bed 3 times in one night. I am 70 years old, Type 2 diabetic but control it with insulin & metformin. Any ideas? I go to the VA and my first appointment to see them is 3 months from now. I also have fatigue pretty bad that hits often. Extreme fatigue.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on HealthcareMagic.

The description of your symptoms look like you are suffering from what we call as irritable bowel syndrome.

It is quite common in people with diabetes as the gastric motility increases in diabetes. Please recheck to see that you keep your blood sugars under control.

If it is not related to any food intake then chances of allergy is ruled out.

I would recommend you to take Tab Mebeverine hydrochloride for one week (please obtain the necessary prescription by your physician).

If it doesn't help, then you may have to see a gastroenterologist for colonoscopy.

Hope this helps
Best wishes
