Suggest Treatment For Fever Blister On Bottom Lip Causing Swelling

default
Posted on Sat, 1 Aug 2015
Question: I started out with a fever blister on bottom lip two weeks ago. Has now spread to involve both lips on the outside and inside the left side of both lips and they are swollen. Pretty miserable as I cannot eat or talk. I did go to my primary care physician on Thursday and was prescribed acyclovir 400mg 2 tablets four times per day. It is starting to dry up on the outside but inside of lips are raw. Anything I should be doing for the inside of the lips specifically. Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
For now, continue Acyclovir. Are you on any pain medications?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these sores that you have reported. From the symptoms and the treatment, this seems to be herpes. Unfortunately, herpes takes a little longer to get fully resolved and you will need to show some patience and resilience. In this time, we can work on alleviating the pain symptoms by adding a pain medication. I will suggest you add Tylenol at this time. Otherwise, the drugs are well adapted and should work on resolving this issue. My lone concern is that we cannot make time to pass on faster so that you can also get well sooner.

In all, your treatment is good. I will suggest you add tylenol for pain control. All you need are a couple of more days and all will soon return to normal.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
