Question: Hi, I had cataract surgery 4 years ago and everything went great . In the last 6 months my distance vision has decreased a little and since last Saturday the 17 I started seen flashing lights on the corner of my right eye ( the distance vision lens) and since yesterday I have a floater spot that moves along with my right eye. It is a little bit swollen (inside, I know the feeling from the surgery) and it hurts a little as well. When I cover it is a little blurry but I can see. My left eye is working great and my reading vision is perfect. What can it be?

Brief Answer:
Diminution of vision can be because of after cataract.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you have undergone cataract surgery 4 years ago.
You are having problem of seeing flashes of light and floaters in right eye with diminution of vision for distance in right eye.

The diminution of vision is probably because of after cataract which usually occurs after few years of cataract surgery.
No need to worry about this one as this can be easily treated with simple laser procedure called as Yag laser capsulotomy with complete restoration of vision.

However the symptoms of flashes of light and floaters require evaluation to rule out the problems involving the posterior segment. The common problems that need to be ruled out are posterior vitreous detachment, vitreous degenerations, retinal tear...
The vitreous related problems like posterior vitreous detachment, vitreous degenerations are usually benign conditions and resolve slowly and they does not require treatment. However some times retinal tear can present with these symptoms and require prophylactic treatment with laser to prevent complications. Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination. A simple office test called as indirect ophthalmoscopy will be able to find out the underlying cause and depending on this further treatment is advised.

Hence I advice you to consult your eye doctor for further evaluation and do get back to me with the examination results so that I can advice you more accurately.

Hope this is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
