Question: I have had flu symptoms for a week. I am getting good expel from my nasal and coughing whereas I do not need an expectorant, but my nasal flow smells like nothing I have ever experienced before. It smells like Bile. At first I thought I had a dead animal under my house. But Its coming from me. Any suggestions.

Brief Answer:
Anaerobes cause foul smelling infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Foul smell from nasal or respiratory tract/ passages warrants further assessment as it indicates an anaerobic bacterial infection. ENT exam along with a chest x ray and pulmonology consultation should be done to rule out any abscess formation. Antibiotics can be initiated promptly if an infectious focus is isolated.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
