Suggest Treatment For Green Stool And Virus Infection In Child
Question: Hi doctor,
my lil one completed 2months, we have visited doctor today as she is pooping bright green since 4 days. He told this is because of e.coli virus. He prescribed "1. Nor-metrogyl (2.5ml)and 2. Sporlac qik one sachet" per day. From past two days she is sleeping more time than usual. For cold he prescribed "noblok drops" which is pink in color. He has earlier given coriminic drops for cold(she was ok then). Im afraid he is suggesting antibiotic everytime and will she gain her immune system?

There is nothing to worry about.
Out of the all the drugs that you have mentioned Nor-metrogyl is only antibiotics,rest of the drugs are supportive drugs.
Noblok is having medicine for cold ,which may be reason for sleepiness.
There is no effect on immune system due to antibiotics.
Do not worry,continue medication as advised,continue feeding and make sure she passes urine as she was passing before.
Any dullness,poor oral intake,decreased urine are the symptoms which should be reported to doctor.
Wishing her speedy recovery.

She is pooping green from 4 to 5 days and sleeping very long hours since 3 to 2 days..Is diarrhea a reason for her long sleep?
I feed her every 2 to 3 hours regularly, she is not taking milk more than 4min. Sometimes she sleeps more than 4 hours without drinking. Is this because of her drowsiness?
Im afraid she will be ""dehydrated"" she even splits up.

Though this is not the first choice in small infants and generally not the first option.. As there are various options available. If you do not find improvement, you find that you child is not doing well in-spite of medicines please visit your doctor again or take a second opinion.
The second opinion could be from a family physician(MBBS) or a pediatrician.
Sporlac or any such drugs are used to control frequency of stool and used as binders which helps to reduce water content in stools and restore normal flora(the normal bacteria-the good one-that resides in intestines) of intestine. This are normally well tolerated and not having any major side effects.
