Question: What should be a therapeutic treatment plan?
I have been diagnosed with hashimotis thyroiditis. My TSH 6 weeks ago was 4.8 with normal t3 and t4. My primary was not going to treat me because TSH of 4.8 is not recommended to treat unless symptomatic. I had bruising, itching, hair thinning, insomnia, joint pain, no weight gain, extreme hunger at times. I went to holistic MD and my labs reflected
thyroglobulin antibodies 2
thyroid peroxidase 138
ferritin 20
DHEA 244
ferrofood one tab daily for iron
he suggested I go on selenium and iodizyme daily. Also naturethroid 1 grain eveyother day. I tried this but it gave me so much anxiety and water retention in abdomen and hips. I am normally a very thin girl.
I tried this regimen today along with my other meds but feel

Brief Answer:
Thyroid

Detailed Answer:
I see I have attended to another related query from you couple weeks back as well.
Here your question is different though.

It appears that your thyroid peroxidase antibodies are positive. We need to confirm this fact because each laboratory may use different methods for checking the antibody levels, and 138 may be normal for one but abnormal on another.

If the antibodies are truly positive then there is a stronger case to be made to justify treatment with the correct type of thyroid medication ie levo thyroxine.

Regardless, if it has been longer than 4 to 6 weeks since your last TSH, it is advisable to do one now.
But again it is important to do this when you are off other 'substances' that you are taking such as iodine and nature thyroid. They contaminate the results and will not give a clear picture as to whether or not you need thyroid medication or not.

Selenium, iodizyme and nature thyroid are not recommended by thyroid expert bodies.
