default
Posted on Mon, 19 Sep 2016
Question: I have a frontal, moderate headache with a moderate ache in my left chest. When examined for this previously, no cardiovascular issues could be diagnosed. Last night ( about 15 hours ago), I experienced a sharp pinch in the left chest about 2.5 inches perpendicular to the sternum and five inches below the collar bone. The pain lasts seconds then a dull to moderate ache remains. I am suspecting that my blood pressure is elevated. Current meds: Synthroid 88 mg

Brief Answer:
Probably a muscular ache

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.

The headache and the ache/pinch in your chest, that you experienced last night, are not related to each-other. Also, the pinching pain you experienced in only one confined area of the chest, is not related to the blood pressure, high or low. It is probably a muacle ache caused by a muscular twitch of the moment, and the character and the intensity of the pain, as it is described, excludes heart and lungs as the origin of the pain. Even though this is true, unrelated to the pain, it is advised for you, as you are a woman above 55 years of age, to carry out these routine check-up tests:
- an EKG, to assess the heart electrical system in resting state;
- a plain chest X-ray;
- a complete blood count
- a biochemical panel, including the liver and kidney function tests, blood glucose levels, electrolytes and blood fat levels.

I hope I was happy with my answer. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.

Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
