Brief Answer:
Upper respiratory tract infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Most often children suffer from viral respiratory infections. Post-infectious cough and allergic components can also be associated. Some children are more prone to such infections.

Sinusitis is a possible association unless headache and stuffiness is bothering him, but I do not think that you need to worry about sinusitis or sinus infection.

It is quite clear that the upper respiratory infection has involved the neck glands and hence the swelling and enlargement of neck glands alongside the inflamed throat. If he can gurgle, ask him to gurgle with lukewarm water.

You need not get concerned about the neck glands. However, it is a good idea to get him evaluated once more by your GP.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
