Suggest Treatment For High Fever With Headaches And Pain In Chest

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Mar 2015
Question: Good day. There's a flu virus going around which my daughter seems to have gotten. She has high fever and headache since Monday. She now has a pain in the chest when she coughs.
A chest X-ray showed no sign of Pneumonia and a blood study done was normal. However she has a high pulse reading which is over 100 and it went as far as 133.
Could it be because of the fever ?

Brief Answer:
Yes, it is indeed because of the infection; need some information please

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. If you do not mind writing to me, please write back to me with the following information, thank you:

+Your daughter's age
+Days since the symptoms are present
+Any current medications your daughter is on?
+If you do not mind, could you attach the blood reports to our discussion or write to me with the parameters

In my opinion, if the chest x-ray has not shown any signs of disease or abnormality, then this is good news and indicates that this is nothing serious. As for the increase in heart rate, it is because of the fever or even the source of the infection (i.e. possibly the virus in your daughter's case).

I would also like to add that, if at all it is indeed a viral respiratory infection then it will surely be self-limiting (i.e. it will resolve on its own) and will not really require medications to treat it. The only medications that may be necessary are those that will help make your daughter feel more comfortable.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
