Suggest Treatment For High Fever

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Aug 2016
Question: My daughter (7 year old), is having high fever since today morning. (101F). I am giving her Crocin DS syrup (7.5 ml) every 6 hours. It comes down after medicine to 99.4F.
I am worried of dengue hearing seasonal outspread of it.
Should i get her checked for dengue immediately or wait for some time and look for some symptom?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Likely to be a viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Most often children get viral infections which present with such fevers. Irrespective of treatment they usually last for about 5-7 days. Dengue is just another viral fever but the issue is there is a small subsection of dengue which has hemorrhagic manifestations. Dengue is usually characterised by rashes and low platelet count. So, rashes are the first signs to look out for. If apprehensive, you can get the blood counts checked. Unless there is a raised white blood cell count (indicative of bacterial infection) or a low platelet count (could indicate dengue) you need not worry. However, if still apprehensive, you may feel free to test for dengue.
