Question: Hi, I am 5"10 and weight 100 Kgs. We have been trying to conceive for the last 3 years. My wife & I do not have any previous medical condition. My wife is 33 years old and is 5"9 and weights 88 Kgs. We had done all the necessary tests last year and everything looked good. My wife has polycystic ovaries (initial stage) & I have a little low motility (doc. said that these were conditions for us to not worry about). We were adivsed by our doctor to consider IV, I understand that it is an expensive treatment and there is a 50-50 chance. What advice do you have for us as a couple to do and not to do for us to conceive??

Brief Answer:
Options other than IVF are available.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to healthcaremagic.

I think there are many options before undergoing IVF. As you told your wife has polycystic ovaries, there may be some ovulation problem associated with it. So, you can go for ovulation induction with timed intercourse. In this, your wife will take some medicines like clomiphene for growth of follicles. Follicle growth will be tracked by repeated ultrasound and when follicle is more than 17 to 18 mm, injection will be given to rupture the follicle. Be in contact with your wife for next 2 days. Progesterone will be given for 2 weeks. Do a urine pregnancy test after that. You can try like that for 3 to 6 cycles.

Also try losing some weight. It will be of great help.

If ovulation induction with timed intercourse will not work, I think you can go for Intrauterine insemination for 3 to 6 cycles.

You can take some antioxidant and vitamin supplements for 3 months to improve motility.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any other query, I will be happy to help.
