Question: I'm 57 years old. I haven't had a period for ten years.Today I experienced light spotting. Shortly thereafter, I experienced an uncontrollable emotional outburst of crying, followed by laughter,repeatedly...Shortly Afterwards, all of the above symptoms stopped..I haven't been sexually active for many years, until now, with my fiancee ...I don't understand what the heck is going on ...or weather the increased sexual intercorse has anything to do with it...The only medication I've been taking for the past three months is 5000mg of biotin a day...what the heck is going on?

Brief Answer:
About the spotting and mood swings

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Well this sounds disconcerting! My guess is that increased intercourse has stimulated your ovaries and that caused a release of estrogen. An unsteady hormonal release may have caused the mood swings. And that same surge (of estrogen) and drop may explain the spotting too. That said, however, after a woman has gone thru menopause, it is recommended to investigate any vaginal bleeding.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
