Brief Answer:
It is common while taking chemotherapy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You are taking chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy kills the cancer cells. In this process it also affect normal cells also. Low hemoglobin, low wbc count and low platelet count are very common while you are on chemotherapy. It is just a side effect of chemotherapy. No need to worry about that. Just be relaxed. If you have severe low hb or platelet then you can take supplements of blood.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic.
Wish you a very good health.

Brief Answer:
Low hemoglobin may be due to chemotherapy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
You hemoglobin is decreased. It may be due to chemotherapy. Chemotherapy can also leads to low wbc count and low platelet.
If he has platelet count below 20,000 then there is chance of bleeding. For infection continue the antibiotics treatment.
Please send me his platelet count and wbc count so that I can help to differentiate whether your low hemoglobin is due to bleeding or chemotherapy.

Brief Answer:
His low hemoglobin may be due to chemotherapy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through his report. His platelet count is 37,000.
Spontaneous bleeding occurs below 20,000. When count is more then 20,000 chances bleeding due to platelets are low. So his low hemoglobin may be due to effect of chemotherapy.
For fever he can take oral or injectable paracetamol. Continue antibiotics according to advice.
His platelet count should be monitored regularly. If count decreased further then he need platelet transfusion. So keep close watch on blood counts.
Hope I have answered your question. If you still have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer you. Thanks for using health care magic.

Answered by Dr. Hardik Sanghvi (12 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It will depends on general condition and response to treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
His low hemoglobin can be due to chemotherapy or cancer metastasis.
Chemotherapy should be continued or not will be depends on many factors.
Patients general condition, response to treatment, effects of chemotherapy, side effects of chemotherapy and risk benefit ration. So consult your oncologist for that. And take decision accordingly. If your chemotherapy is working that it can be continued but external blood transfusion is needed. It will be decided by your treating doctors.

doctor
Answered by Dr. Hardik Sanghvi (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
If chemotherapy is working then disease burden is decreased.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I can understand your concern.
If chemotherapy is working then It suppress the disease activity and disease burden is decreased. But It has no relation with hemoglobin. Hemoglobin can be decreased with effective chemotherapy also.
So Its not like that.

Last query I have . So just 1 cea drop after round 2 does not mean much right ? There has to be a few like a trend?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Hardik Sanghvi (8 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
There should be persistent fall in CEA.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
CEA is the tumour marker of gastrointestinal cancer. Its level directly proportional to cancer activity and cancer cell load. Its level is useful in treatment monitoring. There should be persistent fall in CEA level if chemotherapy is working completely. If there is fall followed by rise in CEA level, it suggest chemotherapy is not working and cancer is spreading.
Consult your doctor and plan accordingly.
