Brief Answer:
Don't stop nitrofurantoin. Treat backache conservatively

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Nitrofurantoin is not causing this back pain. UTI is causing it which nitrofurantoin is trying to get rid of. So stopping nitrofurantoin would not be wise. take 100 mg 4 times a day for 10 days and i would suggest fosfomycin 3 gm taken all at once to help complete eradication of UTI.

As far as the back pain is concerned , take some nsaids and skelaxin for the relief. Plenty of fluids intake, good toilet and coital habits and garlic and cranberry juices will help.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan

It is not back pain it goes deeper than that. I wonder if it is affecting my kidneys since it is on the right lower side of my body? How about the shortness of breathe is that normal? I have only recently experience this while taking this med

Brief Answer:
psychogenic Dyspnea

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Shortness of breath is not attributed to nitrofurantoin. However you should get it assessed. Usually anxiety and urinary tract infections together give a breath shortness called psychogenic Dyspnea.

As far as the pain in back o's concerned that is referred pain from urinary tract that is why it feels deep. Symptomatic treatment is advised.

I hope it helps.

Well, shortness of breath is listed as one of the cautions listed on the personal prescription information that came with the med it reads: "this medication may cause severe and sometimes fatal lung problems." So in your professional option since I have experienced shortness of breathe only whilst taking this medication (especially when i am walking/active), should I continue talking it?

Brief Answer:
discontinue

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Lung toxicity is attributed to long term use and in elderly. Age of 60 and more. If you feel like this medication is causing it I will suggest discontinue nitrofurantoin and replace it with some other uti meds for which your biogram is sensitive.

Fosfomycin 3g is once a dose and alone is sufficient to treat uti.

Nutshell discontinue the medicine and see if the symptoms get relieved. In else situation you will need and followup to rule out other causes of Dyspnea. I am sure they will come clean.

I hope it helps.
