Suggest Treatment For Lower Front And Back

Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: Hi, I have previously used your service to advise me regarding my BP. This has been treated with Amlodipine which has worked ok. I have been having pains all over my middle for some months. In the lower front and the sides and lower back. Lately I have been feeling grim, anxious and shaky. I tested my urine with a testing stick and colours changed. I think the changed colours indicated protein and blood. My GP gave me antibiotics without examination. I have taken Trimethoprim for 3 days so far but am no better.

Brief Answer:
Further diagnostic tests advised...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you for using our service to get a second opinion over your health issues.

With regards to your actual health problems, I can say that they are indicative for possible urinary tract infection. If I was your caring doctor would advise to run:
- urine analysis
- urine culture and sensitivity testing
- abdominal ultrasound

to determine:
- the right diagnosis
- the right antibiotic to use
- other health issues

So, if you are not better until now, please go back to your doctor and report this, and discuss to run the advised tests.

Meanwhile, I advise to use OTC :
- Magnesium citrate
- uva-ursi tea
to optimize urine pH and help fight infection.

Hope it helped!

Doctor, I have continued the Trimethoprim for four days now.Yesterday morning, the third day, I felt better. By the afternoon the pains and discomfort came back. I noticed last night that small painless blisters had appeared on the end of my penis.it is the weekend and doctors don't work in the UK. Spoke to a telephone doctor who said she would prescribe Nitrofurantoin. Don't know if I should change or stick with the Trimethoprim. Tablets do cause me side effects. Am not well.
I will insist on tests next week and am on the waiting list to see a urologist privately.

Brief Answer:
Continue with Nitrofurantoin till see urologist...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

From what you are prescribing, it seems that you have been developed candida thrush due to antibiotic use. You can apply clotrimazole cream locally.

Nitrofurantoin is another good antibiotic for urinary tract infections. Candida infection is also associated with this antibiotic use.

You can continue with Nitrofurantoin and clotrimazole cream locally until you see urologist.

Wish fast recovery!
