Question: Hi,
I am going to Male pattern baldness. Its been more than 9 years since I am loosing hair. I have lost considerably from front and crown area. My age is 31 years. I have gone through lots of medications and various doctors. Even mesotherapy, but nothing improved the hair. Last year I started with Minoxidil 5% as recommended by my doctor. I continued it for good 7-8 months which improved my situation and when I stopped it, hair fall started back. Now another doctor has recommended me logihair and proanagen tablets. one daily both. Just wanted to know for how long should I continue these tablets ? Are there any side effects of these for continuous usage ? These tablets seems to have stopped hair fall considerably.
Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
5 alpha reductase inhibitors ideally should be continued for life

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have understood your concern.

The active ingredients in these tablets is Saw Palmetto Extract, which act by inhibiting the enzyme 5 alpha reductase, present in hair follicles; this is the main enzyme responsible for miniaturisation and hair loss in androgenetic alopecia. Therefore, inhibiting this enzyme is an essential step in arresting further progression of hair loss and reversing early hair loss.

These tablets should ideally be taken lifelong along with application of topical minoxidil. Stopping these would certainly reverse the benefits over a few months.

Saw palmetto extract, as well as finasteride, are commonly prescribed for androgenetic alopecia and usually there are no side effects. However, a minority of patients, though not all patients, may notice gynecomastia (i.e development male breast) after a few years.

Brief Answer:
Just 1-2 %patients may complain of a temporary decrease in libido

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Some patients do complain of a negative effect on libido but its incidence is just 1-2% and moreover it is a temporary side effect and subsides with continued treatment. In my view it does'nt decrease libido and it is the awareness of this side effect that itself causes it.

Hi Doctor,

My Dermatologist also recommended two hair serums
1) Grip Hair serum - Night
2) Recapil serum - Morning

along with LogiHair and Proanagen tablets.

Just wanted to know If these 2 serums are better than Minoxidil ? Are these good enough ? Or having any side effects ?

Brief Answer:
No side effects with capixyl or procapil

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

These serums most likely contain capixyl and procapil, respectively which are also effective against androgenetic alopecia. Ideally they should be used as an adjuvant together with monoxidil, at separate times of the day. There are no side effects with capixyl or procapil.
