Brief Answer:
Yes both can cause constipation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Calcium as well as vitamin D supplements both can cause constipation and is their common adverse effect. Also age of 65 reduces bowel functions so that make the odds more likely for constipation with these supplements use. Also the use of fosamax ( Alendronate ) or risedronate or any other calcium metabolism modifying bisphosphonates can cause constipation and yes they are notorious for heartburn that is why it is taken only in the morning, with 8 to 12 ounces of plain water, have to remain erect upright for at least 30 minutes etc.

YOu can not stop these medications as these help the bone mineralization. However you can go for symptomatic treatment of constipation which includes more fiber, more fluids, on and off use of laxatives on need basis and regular exercise and training your bowel habits.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
