Question: my mother developed problem of fever, shivering ,drowsiness, mental confusion state, excessive thirst and urine. There was a temporary loss of memory, due to increase in sodium level upto a level of 171.She was diagnosed problem of neuro sarcodoises because of inflation in brain .She was on steroids alongwith a TB course so as to avoid any confusion of wrong diagnose .But during these years fever used to reoccur. Now .But now after two year ,she was recovering ,the inflation was also negligible as per brain MRI. But few days back ,she had a throat ulcer .she was not able to eat and vomit everything and constipation was there. She was on liquid only and had problem in breathing.and all neuro sarcodoisis symptomes reoccurred. She was not able to control thirst, urine, memory loss. She was again admitted in ICU.where she didnt improved and was shifted to ventilator .Her sodium went upto 183 from 135,sugar shooted up,BP Low .Its been 25 days now.She is still in ICU,presently all vital are ok like BP,Sugar,Sodium but sodium level fluctuates on daily basis .doctors are giving her MINIRIN (desmopressin) nasal spray (thrice a day) to control sodium. Her health improved for 2-3 days and she was on soft diet yesterday. But again there was some problem with intestines as she was not eating since last one month.NOw doctors have taken out all food through pipes and she is bit better. But we are really worried about the sodium factor. IT is 143 right now which is in range .Yesterday only it was 173.and day before yesterday 134. Why does the sodium fluctuates so much. And is there any treatment of neuro sarcodoisis is XXXXXXX .Can we go with ayurveda, naturopathy, homeopathy along with the allopathic treatment once she is stable.

Brief Answer:
Sodium disturbance could be secondary to DI

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I am really sorry about your mother's condition.

With multiple neural and system disease, I would realize there a lot of trouble going around. The sodium disturbance can be secondary to the Diabetes Insipidus she has. Water balance is one thing which plays a vital role in the electrolyte levels. Since sodium is involved in many metabolic, hemodynamic and water-electrolyte systems, there is high propensity for it to fluctuate heavily when the balance is disturbed. Sodium levels have to be intervened directly.

Neurosacrdoisis is treated as an inflammatory disease with steroids like Prednisolone and some times with different class of medications like cyclophosphamide, pentoxifylline, infliximab etc. These medications are well advised by any neurologist across XXXXXXX

Yes, you can go for other alternative medicine once she is out of the ICU and on maintenance medications.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
