Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In Foot During Menstrual Cycle

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: I have swelling that just started last week in my right foot, some pain, and have started having dizzy spells when I walk sometimes I feel like I am going to fall over. What is even more crazy is this happens when I am either wearing my sunglasses or I have my hair pulled back in a pony tail. Strange. What could be causing this? I have previously had some high blood pressures but I have checked my blood pressure regularly and it is 111/77 which I feel is good. During this time I had my menstrual period could any of these be causes?

Brief Answer:
Related to menses , most likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Foot and / or lower limb swelling and pain should be examined clinically to rule out infective or vascular causes. The blood pressure is fine. The combination of symptoms including dizziness and unusual triggers such as wearing sunglasses or having hair pulled back suggests anxiety or a panic disorder. These can occur in menses in a more pronounced manner. If the symptoms persist then you should go for a workup. Blood sugar, B.P monitoring, electrolytes, blood counts should be checked to look for a possible cause. If none is found then most likely the pain and swelling is related to your menstrual period.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
