Question : My husband has pain in both wrists which are also swollen. He also has pain in his L knee(R knee was replaced in 1994). Recently treated with Ampicillin for a UTI. Had a cystoscopy done on 2/19 by a new urologist and now, we don't think he was prescribed an antibiotic before/after this procedure. Family doc has him on Keflex for 10 days to treat cellulitis but the pain is not improved. Can you give me some ideas to ask the Dr to check out? Could he have septic arthritis??

                                    Brief Answer:
It is not septic arthritis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I do not think it is septic arthritis as infection does not involve more then one joint at same time. I think you are having arthralgia. It is condition where there is swelling and effusion in joint. I would suggest you following.
1.Tablet Etorixoxib 90 mg daily.
2. Hot water fomentation
3.Get blood tests like ESR, CRP and RA factor .
4.if any of these tests positive then you might need HCQ or methotrexate tablets as per your physcian advise.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
