Posted on Tue, 19 Aug 2014
Question: I have fibromyalgia and I am experiencing muscle spasms that are very painful. They are in my neck and upper shoulders and in my lower back, sometimes sending shooting "electric" pain up my spine. I also have migraines, and wonder if they are adding to the neck spasms.

Brief Answer:
Neck spasm and migraine are different things.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your query.

One thing I would like to make your clear is that fibromyalgia is a chronic condition and it causes fatigue, widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, and multiple tender points

Many people who have fibromyalgia also have headaches and facial pain that may be related to tenderness or stiffness in their neck and shoulders, that is why you are having all these symptoms.

Migraine usually not cause addition to aggravation in neck spasms. Sometimes, dizziness and neck pain of migraine is wrongly attributed to neck spondylosis. An effective migraine treatment will relieve you of neck pains and dizziness besides controlling headaches.

I hope you have got your answer.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.
