I have anxiety problems that keep me awake for most of the night. And, I am having panic attacks that make me break out in a cold sweat, feels like I can't breathe and makes me shake all over. I just lost both my parents to lung cancer. I was their primary care giver and I watched them both die. I have nightmares that I cannot resesitate them and am screaming for someone to help me! No one comes. I have this nightmare every night. Sometimes several times a night.

Brief Answer:
Please try to relax yourself.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

I am sorry for your loss. Due to this significant loss you are seeing worsening of panic symptoms. Try to relax yourself, if possible spend your time in some constructive activities or outdoors that will distract your mind. Yoga or breath holding exercises will help you to remain relaxed. Green tea can be used to reduce the panic symptoms to some extent.

The symptoms like cold sweats, difficulty in breathing, shakiness, nightmares etc are occurring due to severe prolonged grief. If you can visit a doctor then take an appointment. Medicines like Xanax or Klonopin in low doses will definitely help to reduce these symptoms. This will also improve your sleep.

Just don't loose hope. With passage of time the symptoms will reduce and you will be able to lead a normal anxiety free life again. Music in low volume can also be used to relax yourself.

Thanks. Take care

Okay. How do I go about getting an Rx for either Xanax or Klonopin? How do I get an appointment with a Psychiatrist? I'm going to make some green tea right now! Thank you for that information. I cannot wait to have an anxiety free life! Heck, I would be happy to have an anxiety free day!! I have never felt so helpless in my life!

Brief Answer:
Visit a GP for primary evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Xanax or Klonopin both are controlled drugs and to get the prescription you have to visit a GP or a Psychiatrist. If GP refers you to a psychiatrist then you can take an appointment from a psychiatrist.

Just explain your symptoms in detail along with the restlessness and panic you are having. This will make them understand your problem with better perspective.

Yes green tea would help you in reducing the anxiety. Don't make it too strong.

Please try to regain your confidence. Don't loose hope. The helplessness is due to your loss and with time this will go away. The anxiety will decrease with time. Keep yourself busy.

Thanks. Take care
