Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough After Taking The Z Pack

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: My eleven year old just finished a Z pack for an infection that we were pretty sure started as asthma and allergies. He is coughing way less, but when he does cough, they are deep and long and he ends up vomiting. Not sure if we should go back to the allergist, primary care or just wait cause the z pack keeps working for a number of days after one finishes the dose.

Brief Answer:
Do see doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Z-pack does clear infection, but he has mucus collected in his airway deep down which needs to be removed.

Few things that can help him are- steam inhalation, bronchodilator and expectorant.

So if symptoms are little mild then give try to steam inhalation three times a day, ask him to cough out sputum that comes in mouth.

If in a day he is fine then dont see doctor. If not, then see the doctor.

Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.
